This body butter is a luxurious moisturizer that smells good enough to eat! Cocoa butter is combined with coconut oil, sweet almond oil, and a bit of beeswax to create a light body butter that is intensely hydrating and looks like buttercream frosting!
I started making my own body butter several years ago when I was searching for a natural body moisturizer that was affordable. So many body lotions on the market contain chemicals (like hormone-disrupting phthalates) and low-quality ingredients that I would never want on my body.
Even the natural body lotions come in wasteful plastic packaging that fills up our landfills (or worse, our ocean).
What is the healthy and sustainable option?
Make your own!
Making your own means you know exactly what is going on your (or your kid’s) body. You can control where you get your ingredients from and you can customize any scents you want to add.
Are you ready to try it?
Ingredients:
2 oz Cocoa Butter (about 1/2 cup wafers*)
2 oz Sweet Almond Oil (about 1/4 cup)
2 oz Coconut Oil (about 1/4 cup melted)
1 tsp Beeswax (optional)
*All of these measurements are in weight for higher accuracy but I have included approximate volume measurements on the side.
Directions
Step 1: Measure out all ingredients and combine in a heat-proof bowl.
Step 2: Place bowl in a pot of water on the stove (double boiler) and heat until ingredients are melted. Remove from heat. If you would like to add in some essential oils, this is a perfect time. I would mix in about 15-20 drops of your desired essential oil.

Heat safe bowl in a pot of simmering water.
Step 3: Refrigerate bowl until contents begin to solidify (about 30 minutes). You want the oils to be almost solid.
Step 4: Using an electric handheld or stand mixer, whip the oils until you get a stiff frosting-like consistency.

Whip until mixture has a frosting-like consistency.
Step 5: Transfer to a reusable container of your choice for storage. This is my favorite size jar for storage!
This recipe makes a little more than a cup of body butter. I typically get all of my ingredients from Mountain Rose Herbs or in bulk from my local natural foods store. The body butter will keep for quite awhile since it doesn’t contain any water but I usually use it up in less than 3 months anyway!
Enjoy the chocolaty goodness of this body butter and comment below if you tried it!
